Birdgetines of all ages, gathered together at Malalasekera Mawatha for the first ever Bridgetine Motor Rally organized by the Past Pupils’ Association (PPA).
Over 100 cars gaily decked in green and white lined up for the flag-off. Although the rain poured down, it did not dampen the spirits of the Bridgetines who were eager to take off on a day of fun. Eight Rev. Sisters participated in the rally as well as several of the older past pupils. It was indeed a representative gathering.
Rev. Sr. Solange, the Superior of St. Bridget’s and Patroness of the PPA, flagged off the first car. After an hour and half of fun driving through the city looking for answers to the questions posed, the cars triumphantly trickled in to the Primary School entrance of St. Bridget’s. The participants who poured out of the cars enthused about their experiences. They strolled around the Mini Fair until the results were announced and the prizes awarded.
The Mini Fair, was opened at 10.30 a.m., by chief guest Mrs. Deepa Edirisinghe, a past president of the PPA. There were several food stalls as well as linen, clothing, costume jewellery and other interesting designer ware. The chocolate fountain with a choice of fruits or marshmallows was a great hit. There were rides and a bouncer for the kids. The prefects organized games of skill too. The fair wound up at 4 p.m., with the National Anthem. |
