Bridal farePurnima Abeyratne, the designer whose 'Inspirations' range has earned her a special niche in the local haute couture scene is spreading her wings. Next week, at the Bridal Fair to be held at the Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre, Purnima will launch the "Inspirations Bridal Wear' collection. " Bridal designs don't have to be traditional, they can be modern too," explains Purnima and a glance at the selection featured here will leave you in no doubt as to what she's talking about. "The Kandyan bride we've done is quite different to what you would usually see. Besides we undertake to design for the whole retinue as well, so even the groom and the bridesmaids, bestmen, flowergirls and pageboys will embody the theme," Purnima says. Having launched on a Western line, Purnima is now equally at home designing Eastern and ethnic wear as well and says her designs would take into account the wearer's personality and looks.
