Originality from Saga

"Saga," the six-member band who hit the Western music scene five years ago, is planning to put out their first two original tracks shortly. The brainchild of the husband and wife duo Asela and Shanya Fernando of "Dream Team" fame, Saga performs at Hotel Taj Exotica, Eden, and Hotel Sinbad every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. They can be seen in action at barbeques, beach carnivals, parties, weddings, and get-togethers playing all types of music from reggae, pop and techno to hard rock.

Reminiscing about their stint with the "Dream Team," Shanya says that it was a bit tough workwise as they had to perform every day. "But now it's different. We feel relaxed doing our own thing. Most of all, we have the freedom to choose and make our own decisions." She's all praise for Malcolm Perera, the Manager of Dream Team, which she joined straight after school, who helped tremendously in her career in music. There she got to know another talented musician, Asela, who was later to become her partner for life."

'Saga' was recently featured on "Music Unlimited" on TNL. The band plans to perform the two new tracks at the hotels before they're being released to a radio station. A trip to Maldives is also on the cards around April.

Saga comprises Fabion Bonny (vocals), Asela Fernando (leader, vocals, and keyboard), Sampath Mendis (bass guitar), Nirosha Wattaladeniya (lead guitar), Mal Alwis (drums), and Shanya Fernando (vocals).
