The Colombo Tea auction saw 6.22 million kg of tea on offer this week with 2.53 million kg being Low Grown Main Grades and 2.17 million kg of High and Mid Grown Main Grades.
In the Leafy and Semi Leafy catalogues select best BOP1/ OP1s were generally firm to selectively dearer, whilst a range of improved below best varieties gained. Others and poorer sorts though irregular were firm. Well-made OP/OPAs in general commenced firm, but declined towards the close of the sale, whilst poorer sorts were barely steady.
A selection of well-made Pekoe/Pekoe 1s maintained, whilst others declined substantially, and a fair number of invoices remained unsalable due to lack of suitable bids.
In the Small leaf catalogues select best FBOP/ FBOPF 1s were mostly irregular and lower, whilst below best varieties were fully firm to dearer.
There was good general demand. Better Western BOPs were irregularly lower Rs.50 with a few lines firm on last. Nuwara Eliya BOPs were irregularly lower. BOPFs were firm.
High priced CTC PF1s declined Rs.40 to Rs.100; liquoring teas lost Rs.50 to Rs.100; others were firm to irregularly lower. Select best BP1s sold well, others lower. (SD)

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
