Anantara Kalutara unveils a new culinary chapter at ‘Spice Traders’

Inspired by the ancient Spice Route that once connected Asia through flavours, culture, and discovery, Anantara Kalutara Resort proudly introduces a refreshed dining experience and new menu at its signature restaurant, Spice Traders.

Celebrating the rich culinary traditions of Asia, the new menu takes guests on a journey through bold spices, rich aromas, and authentic flavours inspired by destinations once linked by the legendary Spice Route. From refined Thai delicacies and comforting Asian classics to contemporary interpretations of regional favourites, each dish has been thoughtfully crafted to deliver a memorable and immersive dining experience.

Designed to evoke a strong sense of place, the renewed Spice Traders experience combines culinary storytelling, elevated presentation, and warm hospitality within the elegant riverside setting of Anantara Kalutara Resort. The restaurant’s refreshed ambience and carefully curated menu reflect the spirit of exploration and cultural connection that defined the Spice Route for centuries.

Guests are invited to explore the menu through a distinctive map-inspired dining concept, where traditional starters and main courses are replaced by culinary regions along the ancient Spice Route including Bharata, Serendib, Siam Malakka, Dai Viet and Macao. Each destination highlights signature flavours and stories from across Asia, with standout dishes such as grilled River Prawn, slow-cooked Beef Rendang from Malacca, and Negombo Crab Curry, each offering an authentic interpretation of the region’s culinary heritage.

Speaking on the occasion, Christoph Dueker, General Manager of Anantara Kalutara Resort, shared: “Spice Traders has always celebrated the rich diversity of Asian cuisine. With this new menu and refreshed dining experience, we wanted to create something that feels both authentic and elevated,  a journey through flavour that connects guests to the stories and traditions behind each dish.”

The culinary direction behind the new menu has been led by Executive Chef Depaak together with Specialty Restaurant Chef Alwa, whose passion for Asian cuisine and attention to detail have helped shape a dining experience that balances authenticity with modern refinement.

To mark the unveiling of the new culinary experience, Anantara Kalutara Resort hosted an exclusive evening attended by media, influencers, industry partners, and invited guests. The evening featured cultural performances, curated tasting experiences, and a first look at the new menu inspired by the flavours and spirit of Asia.
