Ceylon Tea production levels are continuing a monthly upward trend this year but still project a dip compared to last year.
Production figures in the first three months totalled 59.3 million kg down on last year’s 63 million kg in the same period but above 53.6 million kg achieved in Q12020, Asia Siyaka Market report stated this week.
In January production was at 19.1 million kg, February at 18.7 million kg and 21.3 million kg in March. The April production figures are likely to increase further, the report noted.
High Growns were up from 3.6 million kg in January to 4.6 million kg in March. Mediums were 2.4 million kg in January to 3.5 million kg in March. Low Growns were 13 million kg in January and rose slightly to 13.1 million kg in March.
Low Growns had totalled 37.5 million kg almost on par with 2022 figure of 38 million kg. High Growns January – March was 12.5 million kg down 15 per cent compared to the 2022 figure of 14.8 million kg. (SD)
