The final week on Tuesday at the Colombo Tea auction for this year saw 5.06 million quantities of tea on offer with 2.04 million kg of Low Grown Main Grades and 1.76 million kg of High and Mid Grown Main Grades.
Select best BOP1/OP1s were barely steady, whilst improved below best varieties were gained; others too were fully firm. Select OP/OPAs were irregular and mostly lower; improved below best varieties were fully firm to dearer. Teas at the lower end maintained. Select best Pekoe/Pekoe1’s declined, whilst below best varieties and poorer sorts gained. In the Small leaf catalogues select best FBOPs gained substantially, whilst corresponding FBOPF1s maintained.
Teas in the best and below best category were fully firm to dearer. In the Premium Flowery catalogues all tippy teas gained substantially.
Fair general demand at this week’s Ex-Estate auction with selected Western BOP1s were firm to Rs.50 dearer and their BOPFs maintained last levels. Below best and other BOPs and their coloury below best BOPFs were firm. Hardly Nuwara Eliya BOP/BOPFs were on offer. Udapussellawa’s were lower, particularly BOPs lower upto Rs.50. Uva BOP/BOPFs were sharply lower. Medium BOPs were about firm on last, whilst BOPFs were lower upto Rs.50. Best CTC BP1s were about firm, whilst others were lower. Best PF1s were maintained, whilst others were tended lower upto Rs.50. (SD)
