Colombo Tea Auction this week saw 5.35 million kg of tea on offer out of which 2.32 million kg were Low Grown Main Grades and 1.92 million kg were High and Mid Grown Main Grades.
Low Growns had met with good demand. In the leafy grade catalogues liquoring OP1s were substantially dearer, while others old at dearer rates too. OP/OPAs met with good demand and sold at dearer rates too. FBOPF1s met with good demand and sold at dearer rates. FBOPFs were substantially dearer all-round. In the Premium Flowery catalogues long leaf and small leaf tippy teas appreciated in value, brokers said.
The market eased substantially in the Ex-Estate catalogues from the high’s of last week. A few selected Western BOPs with quality was slightly dearer, whilst others and the BOPFs were lower by at least Rs.100. Select colour below best Westerns were about firm.
Nuwara Eliya BOPs were firm. BOPFs were lower Rs.100 to Rs.150. Udapussellawa BOP/BOPFs were lower Rs.100 and more. Uva BOPs were lower about Rs.100, whilst BOPFs were lower upto Rs.150. Medium BOPs were irregularly lower, whilst BOPFs were lower Rs.100 to rs.150. CTCBP1s were firm to slightly dearer on last. Best CTC PF1s gained upto Rs.40; others were irregularly lower.
