Prices were holding well while the teas in the lower end made gains at this week’s Colombo Tea Auction where a good demand was observed, the Asia Siyaka Market Report stated.
There was 5.79 million kg of tea on offer this week at the auction with 2.39 million kg of Low Grown Main Grades and 1.96 million kg of High and Mid Grown Main Grades.
In the Leafy and semi leafy catalogues select best OP1/BOP1s declined, whilst best varieties maintained; others were fully firm following special inquiry.
Teas at the lower end maintained A few select best OP/OPAs were fully firm, whilst others maintained. Teas at the lower end gained. Select best Pekoe/Pekoe1s together with improved below best varieties were firm, whilst others were irregular. In the Small leaf catalogues select best FBOPF1s maintained, whilst corresponding FBOPs were easier. Best/Below best varieties too were irregular and mostly lower.
Teas at the lower end maintained. In the Premium Flowery catalogues a few teas maintained, whist others declined substantially and remained unsold due to lack of suitable bids.
Better Western BOP/BOPFs gained Rs.40 and more on special inquiry. Below best BOP/BOPFs were firm to slightly dearer. Nuwara Eliya’s were unsold. Select Udapussellawa BOPs gained Rs.20 to Rs.40, whilst others maintained. BOPFs however tended lower. Uva BOPs gained upto Rs.100 on special inquiry. BOPFs were fully firm. Medium BOPs were irregularly lower. Better BOPFs were dearer upto Rs.40. CTC BP1s were lower with many unsold. Coloury CTC PF1s gained upto Rs.60; others were irregular. (SD)
