Sri Lankan authorities have imposed an immediate travel ban on Indians as a result of a surge in the COVID-19 pandemic.
Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka Director General Capt. Themiya Abeywickrama has stated in a letter dated May 5, 2021, to SriLankan Airlines that in accordance with instructions received from the health authorities of Sri Lanka "due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation, it is hereby directed that passengers travelling from India will not be permitted to disembark in Sri Lanka with immediate effect."
This restriction is expected to be reviewed as early as possible based on instructions from local health authorities, the letter also stated.
