Minor Hotels Sri Lanka joyfully welcomed the season of celebration with two enchanting Christmas Cake Mixing Ceremonies held at its signature coastal Resorts recently, Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort, Anantara Kalutara Resort and Avani Kalutara.

The festivities commenced on 7th November at the Lobby Lounge of Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort, where guests and resort associates gathered in high spirits to take part in this time-honoured tradition. The celebration continued on 8th November at Anantara Kalutara Resort, uniting the teams of both Anantara Kalutara and Avani Kalutara in a lively, joy-filled gathering that radiated the true spirit of togetherness.

Guests indulged in the delightful ritual of blending dried fruits, nuts, and aromatic spices soaked in fine liqueurs — an age-old symbol of prosperity, unity, and abundance. The air was rich with the scent of cinnamon and nutmeg, the sound of laughter and festive melodies, and the warmth of shared anticipation for the season ahead.

Reflecting on the significance of the event, Chef Ruwana De Alwis, Executive Sous Chef at Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort, shared,

‘The cake mixing ceremony is a beautiful reminder of how traditions bring people together. It’s not merely about preparing the Christmas cakes, it’s about creating joy, connection, and memories that linger long after the season has passed. Each mix carries a wish for happiness and prosperity in the year ahead.’

At the Kalutara celebration, Christoph Dueker, General Manager of Anantara and Avani Kalutara Resorts, highlighted the heritage of this cherished custom:

‘The tradition of Christmas cake mixing dates back centuries to Britain, where families gathered to soak fruits and spices for their festive puddings and cakes. Over time, it evolved into a joyous communal ritual that continues to unite people across the world. Here in Sri Lanka, we are honoured to preserve this beautiful tradition, blending it with the warmth and hospitality that define our resorts’.

With the ceremonial mixing complete, Minor Hotels Sri Lanka officially ushered in the festive season — a time to savour indulgent feasts, sunset celebrations, and heartfelt gatherings. From gourmet dining experiences and family festivities to serene seaside moments, guests are invited to embrace the joy, flavour, and enchantment that define the holidays at Anantara and Avani resorts.
