Cinnamon Grand showcases Sri Lankan Flavours in India

Business

Cinnamon Grand Colombo continues to elevate Sri Lanka’s culinary presence on the global stage, successfully completing its second international catering engagement in India this year. Building on the momentum of its participation at the Sri Lanka Independence Day celebration held in New Delhi this February, the hotel recently showcased its expertise at the Sri Lanka Food Festival in Chennai, further strengthening its footprint in the region.

The Sri Lanka Independence Day celebration in New Delhi served as a prestigious platform to present the country’s rich culinary heritage to a distinguished audience, celebrating not just food, but national identity and culture. This was followed by the Sri Lanka Food Festival held from 24 to 26 April 2026 in Chennai, where Cinnamon Grand Colombo brought an immersive island dining experience to Indian audiences. Guests were treated to an array of traditional and contemporary Sri Lankan dishes, complemented by expertly crafted beverages that highlighted local ingredients and flavours.

Commenting on the initiative, General Manager Nazoomi Azhar shared that the vision behind these international showcases is to bring Sri Lanka’s culture and authenticity to life through cuisine. He noted that the experience is designed as ‘Sri Lanka on a plate’, thoughtfully curated by the hotel’s culinary team, with dishes inspired by regions across the island from north to south. The authenticity and creativity of the offering are deeply rooted in Nuga Gama, Cinnamon Grand Colombo’s signature Sri Lankan restaurant, which continues to serve as the foundation for these culinary expressions. He further highlighted that India remains a key contributor to Sri Lanka’s tourism industry, making it especially meaningful to present the country’s flavours through a homegrown brand like Cinnamon Hotels and resorts.

Beyond culinary tourism, Sri Lanka continues to strengthen its position as a diverse destination offering significant potential across multiple tourism segments including film tourism, medical and wellness travel, religious and cultural exploration, sports tourism, destination weddings and large scale corporate travel. With its unique blend of heritage, landscapes, hospitality, and accessibility, the island is increasingly attracting travellers seeking immersive and experience driven journeys. Sri Lanka’s close connectivity with India, combined with strong cultural ties, further positions the country as an ideal destination for Indian travellers across both leisure and business segments.

The growing focus on MICE tourism and entertainment-led experiences is also opening new opportunities for the country’s hospitality sector. With the emergence of integrated developments such as City of Dreams Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka is poised to elevate its appeal as a regional hub for conferences, corporate events, incentives, and premium lifestyle experiences. The development’s gaming and entertainment offerings, alongside luxury hospitality and event infrastructure, are expected to significantly enhance Colombo’s positioning within the regional MICE and tourism landscape, attracting a wider international audience while supporting year round tourism growth.

As travel and tourism between the two countries continue to grow, Cinnamon Grand Colombo remains committed to being a proud ambassador of Sri Lankan cuisine, bringing the warmth, diversity, and authenticity of the island’s flavours to audiences across borders.
