As highlighted in the National People's Power (NPP) Digital Policy and the Government’s Digital Economy implementation, which aims to increase the IT workforce from 85,000 to 200,000, the NPP ICT Committee has initiated an awareness programme in ICT in rural areas.
The first of these programmes was held on Saturday, November 9, in Buttala, Monaragala District, in conjunction with the NPP Youth Meetup, a media release by the NPP ICT Committee said. During the discussion, NPP ICT Committee members explained the key aspects of the NPP Digital Policy and the Government’s Digital Economy programme, emphasising the goal of increasing the IT workforce.
“They also highlighted how to encourage young individuals in the area, particularly those who cannot gain university admission, to join the IT industry. Additionally, it was announced that industry-relevant courses will soon be introduced in these regions to support this initiative,” the media release added.
