The Colombo Tea auction saw 5.18 million kg on offer with 2.08 million kg being Low Grown Main Grades and 1.94 million kg being High and Mid Grown Main Grades.
In the Leafy and Semi Leafy catalogues a few select best BOP1/OP1s maintained whilst a range of best and below best varieties through irregular held firm; others and poorer sorts maintained, brokers said.
Well made OP/OPAs in general were firm; however others and poorer sorts were fully firm. Select best Pekoe's declined, whilst corresponding Pekoe1's were maintained. Best and below best pekoe/Pekoe1's were easier. Teas at the lower end were barely steady. In the Small leaf catalogues select best FBOPs declined substantially, whilst corresponding FBOPF1s maintained.
Best and below best FBOPF1s were fully firm to selectively dearer. FBOPs were marginally easier. Teas at the lower end were fully firm. In the Premium Flowery catalogues well made very tippy teas gained.
Fair demand at slightly lower rates prevailed at this week's Ex-Estate auction. Few select best Western BOPs were dearer on special inquiry, whilst below best and others were irregular and often lost upto Rs.40. A few Western BOPFs gained Rs.50 and more on special inquiry. Coloury below best sorts dearer Rs.30 to Rs.50, whilst bottom was irregular. A very few Nuwara Eliya BOPs were sold, whilst better BOPFs were about firm.
Uva BOP/BOPFs were irregularly lower upto Rs.50. Better Medium BOPs were irregular, whilst others lost upto Rs.20 to Rs.40. Select Medium BOPFs were lower upto Rs.30, whilst others were irregular, whilst others lost upto Rs.20 to Rs.40. Select Medium BOPFs were lower upto Rs.30 whilst others were irregular. CTC BP1s were about firm, except for a few select PF1s which maintained, others tended lower Rs.30 to Rs.50. (SD)
