At the Colombo Tea Auction this week, there was 5.19 million kg of tea on offer with 2.31 million kg of Low Grown Main Grades and 1.7 million kg of High and Mid Grown Main Grades, the Asia Siyaka Market report stated.
In the Leafy Grade catalogue Select best BOP1/OP1 were fully firm, whilst below best varieties gained. Teas at the lower end appreciated further. Well-made OP/OPAs in general were fully firm to dearer, whilst poorer sorts gained further. Select best Pekoe/Peoe 1s were firm, whilst improved below best varieties maintained, particularly teas at the lower end barely steady. In the Premium Flowery catalogues well made very tippy teas appreciated substantially, whilst others were dearer to a lesser extent.
Seasonal Western BOP/BOPFs appreciated Rs.50 to Rs.100 on special inquiry; below best were dearer upto Rs.50; bottom held firm. Nuwara Eliya's were selectively dearer. Udapussellawa BOPs were irregularly lower, but BOPFs gained Rs.50 to Rs.70. Uva BOPs were lower upto Rs.50, whilst BOPFs were barely steady. Medium BOPs were firm to slightly dearer; BOPFs gained upto Rs.50. CT BP1s were Rs.50 to Rs.100 dearer and the better CTC PF1s gained Rs.50 to Rs.100. (SD)
