Sri Lanka’s first ever full-cycle plastic recycling project, Re-Circle, which was launched in 2025 by Cleantech with a view of transforming post-consumer waste into 100% recycled, locally manufactured products of Dustpans and female sanitary bins, was recently awarded the merit recognition under the Best Project Sustainability Awards 2025 at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce’s prestigious Best Corporate Citizen Sustainability Awards, which was held on 19th November 2025 at the Cinnamon Grand, Colombo.

The project integrated informal collectors, Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs), and corporate partners to create a self-sustained market system for recycled plastic. Through its pilot, Cleantech processed 10MT of plastic into 4,000 dustpans and 5,000 sanitary bins, replacing virgin plastic alternatives at a competitive cost.

Through this initiative, Cleantech empowers marginalized waste handlers, supports female workers, and fosters a circular economy that delivers measurable environmental, social, and economic value.

As a leading sustainability entity in the country, Cleantech paves the way for innovative waste management solutions in Sri Lanka. With a track record of over 20 years in the industrial, municipal, and commercial sectors, Cleantech also operates a state-of-the-art 33,000-square-foot Material Recovery and Recycling Facility (MRRF) in Wattala. This facility recycles over 360 metric tons of PET bottles, 360 metric tons of electronic waste (e-waste), and more than 120 metric tons of paper waste annually.

With a vision of becoming the most professional, innovative, and leading waste management specialist in Sri Lanka, the Re-Circle project directly aligns with this move to advance circular economy practices in the country, thus reducing reliance on one-time use plastic and emphasizing on sustainability.

The project aims to becoming successful at reducing plastic waste at source, enhancing recycling capacity, and formalizing informal waste collectors while contributing to national decarbonization efforts under the Circular Economy Roadmap (2023–2030). Re-Circle directly addresses goals to establish value chains for post-consumer plastics, promoting resource efficiency and local manufacturing.

As a subsidiary of the Abans Group, Cleantech is poised to continue driving impactful change for all parties, including clients, employees, and the environment, while upholding the legacy of excellence.

Abans, dedicated to empowering lives, is widely recognised across Sri Lanka. The group has played a pivotal role in modernizing the country’s landscape and uplifting the quality of life for countless Sri Lankans by bringing some of the world’s leading brands to their doorstep.
