Silk Cooperation, a name synonymous within the organic and sustainable agriculture, food and beverage and nutraceuticals segment, recently won the Gold Award in the Spices and Spice-based Products sector.

The award was presented at the 29th NCE Annual Export Awards held at Shangri-La Colombo recently.

In a short span of seven years, Silk Cooperation – in a media release - said that it has evolved to one of the leading players in the spices, herbs, tea, coconut, superfood, and nutraceutical sectors, proving its customers with total supply chain management solutions. Its products are produced naturally in adherence with international standards certified by USDA Organic, EU Organic and processed in an FSSC 22000 certified factory.

Sahan Clive Bakmiwewa, CEO of Silk Cooperation, said: ‘This achievement is a tribute to all our employees, communities, and partners including our much-admired small-scale farmers and producers who placed their unwavering trust and loyalty with us. We are experiencing a significant growth in our exports, and we are seeking ways of expanding our value chains to complement this.’

Silk Cooperation encourages and pursues a culture of collaboration among its participants in the entire value chain with values such as being fair, ethical, and eco-friendly, all deeply embedded in its roots, and well reflected in its day-to-day operations. “We are here to create impactful and meaningful lives to them,” he said.

Silk Cooperation plans to further strengthen its position in the export market and generate additional foreign remittances primarily through the offering of value-added exports by venturing into the Vegan products space in 2022. Silk Cooperation has invested in a vegan processing facility through its subsidiary Silk Foods Ceylon Ltd, and also plans to offer meat and dairy replacements in the vegan space through its brand ‘Plant Based’.

The group has a presence in Australia, Singapore, Slovenia and Vietnam with supply value chains, from sourcing, manufacturing including OBM, packaging and labeling to shipping, logistics including last-mile delivery, spanning across 140 cities in over 15 countries, and exporting to over 40 countries.
