The boards of directors of Sri Lanka Telecom PLC and Mobitel have been changed amidst management issues in the two institutions, informed sources revealed.
Krishantha Cooray and M.F. Farook with a close relationship with Minister Mangala Samaraweera have been removed from the Sri Lanka Telecom Board (SLT) and were replaced by W.K.H. Wegapitiya and J.R.U. de Silva.
UNP activist Rosy Senanayake’s son Kanishka Senanayake has been appointed as a director of Mobitel board.
On the eve of these changes to the board, Tharanath Basnayake Deputy Minister of Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructure held a special meeting with SLT Chairman P.G. Kumarasinghe Sirisena and Chief Officers on Thursday (yesterday).
But CEO Dileepa Wijesundera was a notable absentee, a senior SLT official said adding that a female officer who was the head of the call centre has been appointed as the acting Chief HR officer amidst protests of senior officials and trade unions.
Mr. Kumarasinghe Sirisena will continue as the Chairman of both SLT and Mobitel. G.D.C. Ekanayake, W.K.H. Wegapitiya, N.S.A. Peiris, J.R.U. de Silva, Chan Chee Beng, Jeffrey J. Blatt, Lai Choon Foong and Lawrence Paratz have been appointed to the SLT Director Board.
The Board of Directors of Mobitel comprises P.G. Kumarasinghe Sirisena (Chairman), R.E.U. de Silva, K.D. Geeganage, Lai Choon Foong, Lawrence Paratz, Chan Chee Beng and Kanishka Senanayake. (Bandula)

In his special statement, President Ranil Wickremesinghe announced that debt restructuring agreements will postpone all bilateral loan payments to foreign countries until 2028. Additionally, Sri Lanka will have until 2043 to repay these loans on concessional terms.
