Business

Sri Lanka’s Central Bank will directly intervene in settling deposits of Golden Key depositors under the new government’s 100 day programme., representatives of GK depositors said. This assurance was given by Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake at a meeting with representatives of GK depositors associations in Colombo today, Monday. The modalities of repayment procedure will be formulated soon by the Central Bank, he told the meeting, adding that there was no need (any more) for the involvement of the Supreme Court-appointed GK company. Another meeting with representatives of GK depositors will be held on Friday to brief them on the repayment process. Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran also attended the meeting. It was unclear how the Government can override a court-decided process and on the future status of the GK company that is solely responsible for acquiring GK assets and selling them to settle depositors.
