The licence issued to troubled Central Investment and Finance (CIFL) has been cancelled on an order by the Central Bank’s Monetary Board, the Colombo Stock Exchange was notified on Thursday.
The notice from the Central Bank's Non-Bank Supervision Department further said: “The company may tender objections in writing to the Board in which case the Board may consider the objections and further action may be determined.” The company has been in crisis-mode for several years with deposits not returned to investors and the Central Bank trying to find new investors to recurrect the company. An interim order prohibiting Deshabandu Tennakoon from carrying out his duties as Inspector General of Police (IGP) has been issued by the Supreme Court.
