The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and the National Platform of the Asia Pacific Alliance for Disaster Management (A-PAD) on Tuesday launched an emergency relief campaign appealing for help on behalf of thousands of people affected by the prevailing bad weather.
Donors can hand over their contributions to the A-PAD Secretariat at No 1, Gower Street, Havelock Road, Colombo 5. Information can be gained by calling Sonali on 777314761 or Svetlana via 776601316, the chamber said in a media statement.
The chamber appealed to its members and the business community to come forward and support with urgent requirements to provide relief to the affected people. Among the items required ranks, dry rations, mats, bed sheets, mobile toilet units, tents, rain coats, tarpaulin, boots and emergency lamps, etc.
“The Ministry of Disaster Management has requested dry rations such as, rice, dhal, potatoes, curry and chili powder, tinned fish, tea, sugar and biscuits. Authorities are planning to provide a pack of dry rations worth Rs. 2000 for an affected family,” the release said. - ENDS -
