Sri Lanka’s stock market was up on early hours on Thursday amidst chaos in Parliament with Prime Minister and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa making a statement.
The country’s political crisis took a new turn when the Parliament met today which will ultimately decide who the Prime Minister is in a bizarre political tussle that has thrown the country’s democracy into uncertainty.
Similar to yesterday, the turnover was Rs. 17 million by 10.30 am and seen rising amidst differing factions claiming the Premier is Mr. Rajapaksa having being defeated in a no confidence motion yesterday while the other section maintained that UNP’s Ranil Wickremesinghe is the Prime Minister.
The main All Share Price Index was up by 0.19 per cent to stand at 5,958.91 points by 10.40 am with liquid S&P up by 0.93 per cent to stand at 3,115.87 points. (DEC)
