The Colombo tea auctions were buoyant today (Tuesday) on the opening day of the New Year 2018 with prices picking up by Rs.5-10 per kg on the back of the Russians lifting the ban on Ceylon Tea imports.
Market analysts observed that the prices seemed stronger than at the last auction, which was held amid a cloud of uncertainty when the Russian market imposed a ban on tea imports after a beetle was found in the Ceylon tea packaging. The last auction was held in the second week of December 2017. (SD)
