Senior business professional Dinesh Weerakkody has been appointed chairman of Hatton National Bank (HNB) with effect from May 26.
This was announced by HNB on Tuesday. Mr. Weerakkody is possibly the first Sri Lankan to become chairmen of two private banks, serving at one time as chairman of Commercial Bank.
The new HNB chairman is a close aide to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and an advisor to Tourism Minister John Amaratunga.
This follows the retirement of Rienzie Arseculeratne as HNB chairman on May 25 having reached 70 years. Mr. Weerakkody, in addition to holding several high positions in the government and the private sector, is also a director at DFCC Bank. – ENDS -
