International chain, the Marriot opened its first hotel in Sri Lanka on Thursday. Without any fanfare its property owner, the Weligama Hotel Properties Ltd, a subsidiary of East West Properties Ltd, on Friday announced to the Colombo Stock Exchange that the Weligama Bay Marriott Resort & Spa began operations on July 20.
The beach front property has 198 rooms and suites and is located on the Weligama Bay in the southern coast.- ENDS -

A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
