The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) joint trade union alliance is to launch a trade union action commencing from tomorrow.
A CEB Employees Union leader told the TimesOnline that the unions will go ahead with the strike as they have not received any favourable response to their demands from the authorities.
He said the main demand was to rectify the salary anomalies. In addition they were demanding an inquiry into irregularities in the CEB employees Employment Provident Fund investments and the move to increase electricity tariff.
The Power and Renewable Energy Ministry in a media release stated that several committees have been appointed to study and make recommendations on the salary discrepancy of non-engineering staff and those recommendations will be implemented shortly. There was a decision to increase the electricity tariff; the ministry said adding that the CEB internal audit, CID and Labour Department are conducting investigations into investments of EPF money of employees.
Therefore the planned strike of CEB workers was unjustifiable, the ministry said. (Bandula)
