Life Skill Passport: Empowering the workforce for global employability

Education

The transformative "Life Skill Passport" program was recently highlighted by a lecture from Mr. Sanath Vidanagamage, CEO/Chairman of IGC Campus in Kalutara. This initiative, a collaborative effort by IGC Campus and NID Development Institute, aims to equip individuals with crucial skills for success in the dynamic job market.

The "Life Skill Passport" is a comprehensive training, coaching, and certification program focused on enhancing the employability of unemployed youth and boosting the competency levels of existing employees. It directly addresses the critical need for life skills, which are considered far more important than traditional classroom education or technical skills for finding and sustaining employment.

The program offers two distinct certification levels. Level One is for job seekers, providing training, coaching, assessment, and certification on 10 core life skills to enhance their competitiveness. Level Two is for existing employees, offering 10 more advanced life skills coaching programs customized after a life skill needs assessment (LSNA).

The 10 key life skills include Goal Setting, Creative Problem Solving, Time Management, Assertive Communication, Personal Discipline, Personal Money Management, Personal Productivity, Emotional Intelligence, How to Sell and Add Value, and Teamworking.

A significant feature is its global certification, accredited by the "Grow, Learn, Connect Program" of the World Bank Group and conducted by IGC Campus, ensuring a globally accepted certificate. The certification process involves three simple steps: Skills Training/Coaching, Gauging of Ten Life Skills, and Certification/Graduation.

Beyond the certificate, beneficiaries receive a Life Skill Passport Card, Life Skill Web Profile, an online profile with IGC Campus-backed reference, and networking opportunities with industry and hiring companies. A Life Skill Score Card visually demonstrates initial and final skill levels.

The program targets a broad spectrum of individuals, including school leavers, early dropouts, existing employees, and general job seekers, with the ultimate goal of helping them become "super stars" in their fields.
