A new destination for nature lovers is developing in the Matale district.
The Matale District is a favorite destination for both local and foreign tourists. Many famous tourist attractions such as the Matale Aluvihara Monastery, Sigiriya, Dambulla Rajamaha Viharaya, Riverstone are located in this district.
The new destination is turning to be an attraction point for local tourists.
The location can be reached by traveling from Matale city, or by passing Kandy - Wattegama and reaching Kandenuwara town, and traveling a distance of about 05 kilometers.
It is located only in the Hunugala Estate, under the Rattota Divisional Secretariat Division. Although it is possible to reach this campsite by vehicle, it is located several kilometers away from the carpeted road.
Motorist are cautioned to drive carefully as you have to travel on a dilapidated road for almost 3 km and the final part of the road has a steep slope with gravel and stones.
This location is named “ONE TREE HILL” As the name suggests, there is only one grove of trees on the top of this mountain, which is over 950 meters high
The best time to visit the location is in the evening, as it offers a rare and beautiful view of the sunset.
A nominal fee (Rs. 100) is charged from each visitor, and a separate ticket (Rs. 2000) is required to set up camp overnight. The structures are made of wood with thatched roofs and tin roofs, making it very convenient for preparing food.
In this green land free from light pollution, the experience under a canopy of millions of stars will surely be a memory you will never forget in your life.
This ecosystem is always adorned with a blue hue mixed with color, and you can also see the mist constantly. You can also experience the gentle breeze and the constant cooling of the body at this campsite.
Toilet facilities, water facilities, and the service of a security guard is available for the convenience for tourists camping, and this campsite has been designated as a suitable place for setting up a first camp.
However, while it is appropriate to prioritize your own safety and that of others when camping, it should also be kept in mind that traveling in mountainous terrain under the influence of alcohol or drugs is very dangerous.
The campsite, which has been added to the very limited list of campsites in Sri Lanka where camping is permitted and with facilities, and to take care of the things they carry.
