June 24 marked the 143rd year of the YMCA - the Young Men’s Christian Association of Colombo . A service of thanksgiving was conducted at the Chapel of the YMCA in Fort with Rev. Fr. Rajeev Alexander from Anglican Church was main celebrant.
President of the YMCA Colombo Vijith Peiris gave the welcome address, the vote of thanks was by Bruce Ebenezer (General Secretary), the final.
prayer by Capt. Isurumanie Peiris (Salvation Army) and final Benediction by Pastor Matthew Nagarajah.
A time of fellowship followed the cutting of 143rd anniversary cake by Mr. Induru Lakmal, Pastor Eardley Stephen, Mrs. Anthea Senaratne, Pastor Matthew Nagarajah and Pastor Nihal Mendis.
Finally, a cultural dance by Methodist Church Nugegoda youth group was performed organised by Colombo YMCA Youth Secretary Ms. Remona Fernando.
YMCA Flag Day was also celebrated and flag day stickers were given to all (pasted) members present.

The Colombo–Kandy main road at Pahala Kadugannawa has been closed indefinitely after a deadly rockfall in the area that left six people dead and four others injured.
