‘The Amazing Lemonade Girl’ – a play in aid of the Indira Cancer Trust will be staged at the Kamatha Hall of the BMICH from September 5th-8th. The true story of a little girl’s battle with cancer and her determined efforts in raising funds for cancer patients, is brought to the stage by local theatre group Clutch Plays Theatre. The shows are at 7.30 p.m. on all days with two additional matinee shows on the 7th and 8th at 3.30 p.m.
180 contestants from 11 dance schools will show off their dancing prowess as they vie for 50 titles at the Footwork Dancesport Championships 2024 being held on Sunday, September 8 at Golden Rose, Boralesgamuwa from 10 a.m -12 midnight. Ballroom, Latin American and Street Latin are the main categories with dances such as the Waltz, Tango, Quickstep, Cha Cha, Jive, Samba, Rumba, Salsa, Bachata, and Kizomba all on display.
Currently on at the Barefoot Gallery is their ‘House’ exhibition (until September 29) - a collection of interior design ideas from the designers of Barefoot, showcasing the power of design and colour to transform living spaces. Walk through the Barefoot Gallery and see some striking yet functional displays for a home, all drawn from the four main colour themes that Barefoot works with. Based on founder Barbara Sansoni’s original notes and sketchbooks, these are the Barefoot styles inspired by the country’s distinctive fauna, flora and people.
The Barefoot designers featured are: Poorni Wijesinghe, Binara Marasinghe, Shaunagh Aluwihare, Vidurangi Gunarathne, Tharushi Wijerathne, Sophia Sansoni, Nelun Harasgama, Preethi Hapuwatte and Gnei Raseen.

Anura Kumara Dissanayake is so far leading by securing (52.5%) while Sajith Premadasa secured (21.5 % ) and Ranil Wickremesinghe (19.2%) trailing behind. Meanwhile, independent candidate Ariyanethirnan Pakkiyaselvam secured the Nallur Electorate.
In a formal address, President Ranil Wickremesinghe acknowledged the people’s mandate in the 21st presidential election and announced the transition of leadership to President-elect Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The Supreme Court has suspended the payment of Rs. 150 million to a construction company that was arranged unlawfully, allegedly under the instruction of Minister Bandula Gunawardhana.
Dr Nandika Sanath Kumanayaka has been appointed as the Secretary to the President.
Mr. K. Ananda Wijepala has been appointed as the private secretary to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
