Some 24 years after retirement and his gruelling experiences in the midst of conflict, former Army Commander and ambassador, Gen. Srilal Weerasuriya will launch his memoirs titled ‘Duty & Devotion: The Unfiltered Story of a General and Ambassador;. Whilst recalling his own experiences, the book also traces the country’s shifting fortunes from Independence to more recent times.A Vijitha Yapa publication, the book will be officially released on July 7 and will be available at Vijitha Yapa bookshops from July 8. It is priced at Rs. 3,500.

Artist Hashan Cooray is back with his fifth solo exhibition – this titled ‘Dystopia’. Now on at the Saskia Fernando Gallery, Dystopia sees the artist present his paintings and installations, shining a light on individuals and their fraught relationships with the socio-political systems in which they function. The exhibition continues until July 20.

To get you in on the excitement that awaits, visit the photographic exhibition at the Alliance Francaise in Colombo.Presented by the French Embassy to Sri Lanka and the Maldives and the Alliance Française de Colombo, this is part of an international photography project by French photographer Emilien Buffrad, that seeks to redefine the classic values of sport, affirming that, regardless of sexual orientation or identity, gender or physical or social condition, there is a place for everyone in the realm of sports.

The exhibition portrays the Sea Sisters, a group of female surfers based in Weligama whose aim is to empower local women and girls to swim and surf. Lankan photographer Munira Mutaher has some compelling portraits that tell of their efforts. The exhibition which opens on June 29 will continue until July 20, from 9.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
