Swim Week Colombo recently opened their first Art Connect exhibition for Swim Week. Working under the broader theme of 'Green Conscious Earth Sensitive, the theme of the exhibition is titled “Revive” and will be representing the two creative streams of Fashion and Art.
Many of the artists have exhibited mixed media work using recycled materials which attempt to address the issues which are faced by modern society.
Speaking to the Sunday Times about the event, founder of Swim Week Colombo Ajai Vir Singh explained that there is a deep relationship between art and fashion as both use canvases, which means that the two can be merged together. Some of the exhibits were created using natural dyes made from coffee and betel leaves along with recycled newspaper and wood and aim to prove that art can not only be pleasing to the eye but also eco-friendly. Six notable artists presented their work at the exhibition.
They are Anoma Wijewardene, Bandu Manamperi, Mahen Perera, Vajira Gunawardena, Chathurika Jayani and Ajith Susantha.
‘Art Connect’ was held at the Bay Seven Auditorium at Trace City Maradana on June 27. For further information, please refer to the Swim Week website http://swimweekcolombo.com/schedule/.
