CFW Swim Week Colombo 2019 kicked off its runway segments at Hilton Colombo last night with their ‘Emerging Designer Showcase’ which showcased the up and coming designers of Sri Lanka’s fashion industry.
Those include Marlon Rae, Himashi Wijeweera, Ayesh Wickramarathna, Sharanja De Soyza, Ridma Samaranayake, Nadeeshani Ratnayaka and Nilusha Maddumage.
Giving their own spin on swim and luxury resort wear, the designers demonstrated an eye for flair and elegance with their designs.
From monochromatic palettes to ombre tones, prints and patterns to puffed sleeves and fringed accoutrements, the seven designers elevated chic standard resort attire that is usually associated with cover-ups, big hats and breathable fabrics to becoming high-end pieces, bringing in the luxury element to the clothes.
As ‘Celebrate Colombo’ aims to tie together art, food, music and fashion; it was a pleasant surprise as the audience found out that the runway music would be performed live by young local singers Amarsha Tissera, Lasith Fernando and Francesa Mudannayake (who goes by the stage name ‘Q’). With the powerful vocals and exquisite designs, it was a great start to Day 1 of CFW Swim week.
