International Women’s Day fell on March 8, and to honour women under the theme ‘Connecting Women. Inspiring Change. Making Progress’, will be an original play, sponsored by Citi bank on March 24 at the Cinnamon Grand Entitled ‘Wonder Woman’, the play which explores the issues faced by women today, is written and directed by thespian Tracy Holsinger and performed by Mind Adventures, the experimental theatre company. The cast comprises actresses who have all etched a formidable presence in contemporary theatre, namely Tracy Jayasinghe, Thanuja Jayawardene, Tehani Chitty and Tracy herself. The lighthearted social satire revolves around a creative team from an advertising agency working on the campaign for Wonder Woman magazine’s 75th anniversary. Holsinger elaborates, “As they explore the magazine issue’s theme of, ‘Making it Happen’ and plan the visuals, they find themselves confronting the reality of their circumstances, in comparison to the image of the ideal woman as defined by the media.”
