More than 362,900 persons of 96,670 families have been affected by floods in Batticaloa, the latest official reports said on Tuesday. According to the Disaster Management Centre, 635 houses have been destroyed while 2498 houses have been partially damaged due to the floods in 14 Divisional Secretary Divisions in Batticaloa. Meanwhile, the Disaster Management Centre reports that eight families have been evacuated to safer places in Walapane, Nuwara Eliya due to heavy rains.

I still remember the day of August 1947 floods, as it was the last school day at Kingswood College Kandy and the height the water soured.
