Approximately 10 acres of forest land were destroyed due to a fire that had occured in close proximity to Devon Falls along the Hatton-Nuwara Eliya main road earlier today (Mar 02).
Dimbula-Patana police who suspect that the fire was an act of arson have commenced investigations to arrest the suspect.
Officials claim that drinking water facilities in the area have been affected due to fires of this nature which have occured during the last two years.
Several fires have been reported across hill country areas such as Norwood, Watawala, and Diyagala in the recent past.
Meanwhile, police have requested the general public to notify their nearest police station in the event of such fires.
