After a chase, sleuths of the Q Branch police of Tamil Nadu seized 10 kg of crystal methamphetamine locally known as 'ice' being smuggled to Sri Lanka in a fishing boat by an eight-member gang last night in Tuticorin.
The value of the seized drugs is said to be worth several crores of rupees in the international market.
The operation was based on specific intelligence received by the intelligence unit that drugs were being smuggled from a fishing boat, according to a report from the Times of India.
Further inquiries were underway to find the source of the drug, how it reached the accused, their destination in Sri Lanka, the financial transactions involved and how the network operated.
