As a tribute for the great service rendered by Mahagama Sekara to the country, the Pajet Road at Stanmore Crescent Junction, Colombo 07 has been renamed as “Mahagama Sekara Mawatha” today.
President Maithripala Sirisena presided over the ceremony to rename the road and on his invitation Pandith Amaradeva also joined in unveiling the plaque bearing the name of Mahagama Sekara Mawatha. The Gazette notification in this regard handed over to Mr.Ravindra Mahagama Sekara, son of Mahagama Sekara.
Pandith Amaradeva delivered a brief felicitation speech regarding Mahagama Sekara and his creations and Prof. Sarath Wijesuriya delivered a memorial speech regarding Mahagama Sekara.
The Maha Sangha including Ven. Dr. Dambara Amila Thero, Ven.Akuratiye Nanda Nayaka Thero, politicians including Colombo Governor A. J. M. Muzammil, Chief Minister of the Western Province, Isura Devapriya, lectures, professors, journalists, artists and many others participated in the event.
