Report on High Posts Committee after lapse of 40 years

A report by the High Posts Committee in Parliament today submitted its report to Parliament setting a record by submitting a report after a lapse of 40 years.

The Chairman of the Committee on High Posts of the 8th Parliament, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya highlighted that the committee has held 54 meetings where 290 individuals have been investigated.

 “As the Speaker of the Eighth Parliament and the Chairman of the Committee, I am pleased to be able to present the Report of the Committee on High Posts of the Eighth Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

“It is with great pleasure that the Committee on High Posts of the Eighth Parliament informs that it has summoned all persons nominated by the committee and have carried out an investigation”, he said.

The statement by the Speaker said;

The committee have taken prompt steps to examine the eligibility of all positions as soon as secretaries of any government ministry, corporation chairman’s, board members or other such similar bodies were appointed.

The Committee has also called on all persons nominated to be Head of the Sri Lankan Foreign Missions to appear before the Committee before embarking on their journey abroad.

The Committee has been able to inspect and report on the suitability and eligibility of the persons nominated as Heads of Missions within a very short period of time, such as an approximate number of 16 days.

It was also decided to utilize a separate information system for this committee and I expect that its process will improve going forward.
