12-hour curfew to be imposed in Kandy

A 12-hour curfew will be re-imposed in the Kandy administrative district from 6pm today till 6am tomorrow (9), police said today. 

Police Spokesman Superintendent of Police (SP) Ruwan Gunasekara stated that the curfew, which was lifted at 10am today, will be re-imposed at 6pm today on a decision from the Inspector General of Police (IGP) under emergency regulations. 

However, police stated that no major incidents have been reported since last night and the situation has been controlled to a great extent. 

Some 3000 police personnel and 750 Special Task Force (STF) members have been deployed to the Kandy district to maintain order. They are assisted by 2500 army personnel, 600 navy personnel and 30 members of the air force.
