Navy personnel attached to Northern Command recovered 153 kg of Kerala Cannabis wrapped in three Polysak bags consisting of 44 parcels (each approx weight 2.3Kg to 4.5 Kg) floating near Kangesthanthurai (KKS) yesterday, Navy said.
Earlier Navy suspected that a consignment of contraband due to be smuggled to Velvatithurai area and accordingly deployed naval crafts to cover general sea area. Navy said that smugglers have overthrown the consignment of contrabands last night due inability to bring same to shore as naval patrol units had sealed up their approaches/ landing point.
The Northern Naval Command is vigilant on arresting of contraband smuggled to area and up to date the Command has apprehended a total weight of 1639.93Kgs of Kerala Cannabis smuggled to the area since January 2015.
North has become hub for smuggling Kerala Cannabis with assistance of para-military forces ;153 Kg recovered in KKS;1639 Kg of Kerala Cannabis seized by Navy since 2015.
