Six people have been rescued by the Sri Lanka Air Force after an embankment in Nittiyawatte, Mullaitivu collapsed thereby leaving 21 injured.
Air Force personnel were deployed to the rescue mission following a request made by the Mullaitivu District Secretary.
Our area correspondent noted that around 510 families comprising 1754 people have been displaced due to the inclement weather condition experienced in the area.
More than 200 families comprising 836 people have been displaced in the Kilinochchi district while 210 families consisting of 647 people have been displaced in Mullaitivu. Furthermore, 271 people belonging to 81 families have been displaced in the Mannar district .
It is reported that the Northern Province continues to experience heavy rainfall while the sluice gates of over 50 tanks remain opened.
Meanwhile, the Disaster Management Center has issued landslide warnings to five districts. The warnings will remain in effect till nine tonight.
