NBRO issued landslide warnings at Galle, Kalutara and Ratnapura districts

Level 2 landslide warnings have been issued by the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) for several areas in the Galle, Kalutara, and Ratnapura districts due to the prevailing heavy rainfall conditions across the country.

According to the police, Kotmale–Gampola B431 main road has been temporarily closed due to heavy rainfall affecting the Kotmale area.

Ganemulle Sanjeewa murder suspect under 72-hour detention order 

According to the police spokesperson, police have received a 72-hour detention order for 69-year-old Ousmand Gunasekara resident of Gampaha who was arrested by the Colombo Crime Division (CCD) on allegations of aiding and abetting the killing of Sanjeewa Kumara Samararatne alias Ganemulle Sanjeewa and allegedly supplying firearms used to carry out the murder.

Trail under Prevention of Money Laundering Act against Yoshitha Rajapaksa to proceed 

The Colombo High Court allowed the trial to proceed by rejecting an objection under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act which was raised by the defence in a case filed against Yoshitha Rajapaksa, son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested K. Herath, who served as the department’s Controller of Information Technology and Border Control under the Department of Immigration and Emigration, on allegations of financial fraud linked to the installation of a software system.
