Heavy showers are expected to continue In several provinces across the country with some 30,000 persons already displaced due flooding.
The Meteorology Department said that the prevailing low pressure area located northeast of the Sri Lanka, still persist. This system is expected to move away from Sri Lanka during the next 48 hours according to the latest weather analysis .
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western and Northern provinces and in Anuradhapura, Galle and Matara districts.
Heavy showers above 100mm are likely at some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Puttalam, Galle and Matara districts.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at some places in Uva province while cloudy skies are expected over most parts of the island.
The public have been requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
In the Puttalam district more than 27,000 persons were affected by flooding while details from other reports were flowing in. But initial reports said some 4,000 were affected in other areas.
In Puttalam the railway line too has been affected .
