Nineteen students at the Ruhuna University have been remanded until August 19 over the sexual harassment and assault of a fresher.
The accused which include the chairman of the student union at the university, had surrendered before the Matara police and have been charged under the Torture Act.
Meanwhile, one student who had fallen sick in the accused dock after court had pronounced the remand order, had been rushed to the Matara General Hospital.
During yesterday's hearing at the Matara Magistrate's court, police said the suspects had sexually harassed a 22-year old first year student from Ragama.
Police informed court that further investigations into the incident are currently underway.
