The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to acquire two lands in Dematagoda and Moratuwa to construct 2000 housing units for low income earning families.
Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka had submitted a proposal stating that these houses would be constructed on financial assistance from China.
These houses would be constructed in areas which come under the Moratuwa, Peliyagoda, Thimbirigasyaya, and Maharagama divisional secretariats, he said.
However, Minister Ranawaka had requested to grant a state-owned land slot spanning 3.7 perches in Dr. Danister de Silva Mawatha, Dematagoda which falls under the Thimbirigasyaya divisional secretariat to the Urban Development Authority (UDA) for this purpose.
He had also sought cabinet approval for the preparation of the necessary laws in order to facilitate the UDA in acquiring an 8.8 perches land slot in Moratuwa for the project.
The proposal submitted by the Megapolis and Western Development Minister was granted cabinet approval yesterday.
