UPDATE : CID to freeze assets worth Rs 6 billion of Easter Sunday attacks suspects

Update: Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara today (Sept 5) said that investigations are underway to freeze assets worth more than Rs 6 billion belonging to the suspects arrested over the Easter Sunday attacks.

Addressing a press briefing, Mr. Gunasekara said that the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) had uncovered information of these assets and would be taking steps to freeze them in due course.

The Spokesman noted that more than 100 bank accounts of 41 suspects which contained cash worth Rs 134 million had already been frozen by the CID while Rs 20 million had been seized from the possession of the suspects.

He said that 293 suspects have been arrested in connection with the Easter Sunday attacks so far out of which 115 have been remanded while 178 are being questioned on detention orders.

Among the detained suspects, 62 are being questioned by the CID, 47 by the Terrorist Investigation Division, 41 by the Crimes Division in Colombo, 16 in Ampara, four each in Mount Lavinia and Colombo South, three in Nugegoda and one in Kandy.

Further, Mr. Gunasekara noted that the CID has been able to uncover more information relating to the suspects by analsying 2919 telephone numbers and 169 IMEI numbers.

Addressing a press briefing, he said that of the arrested suspects 115 have been remanded while 178 are being questioned on detention orders.
