35 migrant workers return from Kuwait

News

A group of 35 workers who were not paid after being promised employment as drivers in Kuwait returned to the country today (Jun 25).

Initially, a group of 39 workers had complained to the Sri Lankan Embassy in Kuwait that they were not paid their due wages and promised benefits as mentioned in their contracts signed prior to their departure to Kuwait.

Foreign Employment Ministry Harin Fernando had also instructed the Embassy to conduct a separate inquiry into each of the workers and take adequate measures in that regard.

As a result, four workers had been sent back to the country on May 18. The rest of the group which included 35 members reached the country today.
