At least 43 Indian fishermen among the recently released Indian fishermen who were waiting for their return home tested positive yesterday, officials from the Fisheries Department said.
The fishermen were arrested last month for engaging in bottom trawling practices at Sri Lankan territorial sea and handed in postponed jail terms by Magistrate Courts. Four of their trawlers were also seized. Altogether 56 Indian fishermen were arrested by the Navy last month.
Following their release by Courts, the fishermen were subjected to mandatory PCR tests before their departure to India via flights. (N. Lohathayalan)
