50% of Port City's Phase I complete - Champika

Work on 50% of Phase I of the 269 hectare Colombo Port City Project is now complete, Minister of Megapolis and Western Development Patali Champika Ranawaka said. Speaking at a media briefing today, the Minister also revealed that the Government planned to designate the first development zone of the project in 2018 and auction the plots under competitive bidding in line with Government regulations. 

As part of further development initiatives, the Eastern and Western Terminals of the Colombo Port will be developed in the future and this would increase the operations of the Port severalfold, he added. Furthermore, plans are underway to construct a Marina below Port City and develop it as a tourist zone. The Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development is also hoping to develop the coastline from Kollupitiya to Dehiwala.
